Teamsters Strike UC Jan 10: Your Rights and Responsibilities

Dear UC-AFT members,

Our sister UC union, Teamsters Local 2010, is holding two strikes this week. One strike is limited to UCLA, and the other is UC-wide. This e-mail provides information about both strikes, and your rights and responsibilities with respect to our contracts and the picket lines.

Bylaws Amendment Passes with 94% Support!

Dear Lecturers and Librarians,

The bylaws amendments overwhelming passed with 94% of voters in support of the changes! We had even more participation in the bylaws vote than in our elections! We think that this has been an important step toward democratizing our Local and we look forward to working with all of you to collectively determine the direction of our Local over this coming year. 

UC-AFT 1474 Proposed Bylaws Changes - Vote today!

Dear Local 1474 Members,

Thank you to all who provided feedback on the proposed bylaw amendments either in person at one of the membership meetings held and/or electronically! We really appreciated your input and have amended the proposed amendments to incorporate the feedback we received. We believe that these amendments will offer more opportunities for member input and involvement and further empower and strengthen the voice of members within our union. It is now time to vote on the bylaws amendments.

Would you like to take a workshop to update your skills, attend a conference in Boston, do research in Brazil, or fieldwork in China? And have it paid for by the University of California? Apply for a Professional Development Fund Grant and make it happen.

Member Outreach Days Huge Success

The two day member outreach effort on our campus resulted in nearly 60 new union members and many more in-person conversations with bargaining unit members.  Thanks to the hard work of member volunteers, UC-AFT staff, CFT staff and an amazing k-12 colleague from the Berkeley Federation of Teachers, we were able to get a big jump on member outreach before the end of the academic year.
