March 1 Pay Day for Teaching Faculty

The first raises of our new contract will be delivered in the March 1 paycheck, which will include two distinct pay increases: a shift to a point on a new scale with 3% increments, and a 7% increase to all points on the scale. You can find your new salary rate by following Steps 1-4 on this sheet.

UCOP has confirmed that they will issue the $1500 ratification bonus and the 1% back pay settlement in off-cycle payments. This means they will not be issued in your March 1 paycheck. Check here for details on eligibility for these payments.

Statewide Officer Vacancy Elections for VP Legislation and VP Grievances
We currently have openings on the UC-AFT Local 1474 Executive Board for Vice President for Legislation and Vice President for Grievances. The Duties of Officers are described in Article VI of the UC-AFT Constitution. We will conduct a special election to fill these offices for the remainder of the two-year terms, which end on June 30, 2023. Nominations are due by Wednesday, February 23. The nomination acceptance deadline is Wednesday, March 2. Candidate statements should be submitted by Friday, March 4. The election will be conducted online April 11-17 and terms begin immediately.

Please note that each nominee must have been a member of the union for at least one year to be eligible for nomination. Self-nomination is permitted and encouraged! Please submit nominations to the Nominations and Elections Committee Chair, Rebecca Fordon: rlfordon@gmail.com.

Lecturer Victory: University Paid Steward Positions…Apply Now!

Please review our steward job description and hiring process for details. Interested candidates must have a 100% appointment during AY 22-23 and must attend a steward training on March 4, 11AM-4PM. Applications are due March 7.

UC-AFT Green New Deal Committee and UCLA Sustainability Plan Comments
UC-AFT has formed a new Climate Action / Green New Deal Committee (formal name to still be determined). The committee will develop UC-AFT positions on climate and environmental issues within UC and on state and national policy. The inaugural chair of the committee is Alison Lipman, ecology lecturer from UCLA (and UCLA Unit 18 bargaining team rep). The committee will inform UC sustainability plans (See these comments on UCLA’s Sustainability Plan) and participate in and lead Green New Deal and climate coalition work on UC campuses and in UC communities. The committee is seeking members from each campus and will conduct its first meeting in early March. If you are interested in joining the committee, please email Bill Quirk at: bquirk@ucaft.org.

Higher Education Labor United Summit Registration
Higher Education Labor United (HELU), a coalition of higher ed unions and allied organizations, will hold a Winter Summit on February 23–27 to build support for a collaborative Vision Platform and to help coordinate efforts to advance a national agenda for transforming U.S. colleges and universities. The summit will focus on three core tasks: coordinating the surge of higher education worker organizing across the country, developing federal policy proposals to reverse the trends that have damaged higher education over the last several decades, and engaging in the political process by educating politicians and candidates on these issues and working to support those who will advance a program of democratizing higher education.
