Check Your Stub: Aug 1 Pay Increases…Short 1% and Other Problems
All UC-AFT members should have received pay increases with the August 1 paycheck. We’ve heard from several members who found errors with their pay, so please check your paystubs to be sure your raise is correct. Librarian salaries should have increased by 3%, not including any merit increases effective July 1. UC-AFT faculty also received 3%, but according to the “me too” clause in our contract, we should have received the same 4% that Senate faculty will be receiving in October. We have filed a grievance for this sneaky attempt by UCOP to claw back this raise, but we also need you to sign and share our Faculty Equity 1% Salary petition demanding that UCOP fix this problem quickly.

UC-AFT Faculty Bargaining Update #5…UC Calls Names and Walks Out
Bargaining session #5 took place at UCLA on Wednesday, July 31, and whoa, what a session it was!
Our team was well prepared, disciplined and came with a plan to get answers to questions about UC’s denial of nearly every aspect our proposal on Article 8 Instructional Support. The room was packed with our members and supporters, which apparently put some pressure on UC’s team. After a series of fair and reasonable questions about their proposal, UC’s Chief Negotiator called our team “jerks” and declared the session over. Read the full story in bargaining update #5, which is posted to our new bargaining blog!

L.A. Fed Op-Ed, by Daniel Schoorl…UC-AFT Reinvigorated Post-Janus
The Los Angeles Federation of Labor, as part of their One Year After Janus series, ran a piece by UC-AFT V.P. for Organizing, Daniel Schoorl, who wrote about all the ways our union has strengthened in the year since the Supreme Court sided with billionaire backed, anti-union interest groups in Janus vs. AFSCME. Check out Daniel’s hot takes, including the librarian contract fight and salary victory, increases in union membership and member engagement, and incredible member turnout and participation in our current UC-AFT Faculty bargaining campaign.

UCLA Temporary Librarians Honored for Activism by Society of American Archivists
The Society of American Archivists passed a Council resolution honoring current and former UCLA librarians, now known as the UCLA Six, for their activism against short-term archivist work and their advocacy for better labor practices in archives. Our brave librarian colleagues filed a grievance, which is awaiting arbitration, and rallied incredible support through their spirited fight at UCLA and their constructive critique of the abuse of short-term positions in the field. The resolution is beautiful…please read.
